SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo drug dealer has been indicted for running from law

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo drug dealer has been indicted for running from law enforcement and being in possession of a few different drugs.

Robert Mejia, 32, was indicted in May by a Tom Green County grand jury for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and evading arrest or detention.

According to court documents, on January 21, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m., the investigator was on patrol in a Tom Green County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle when he observed a red truck with two defective lights, one license plate light and one high center mounted stop lamp. This vehicle was traveling southbound on North U.S. Highway 87 and Side View Road.

The deputy activated his red and blue emergency light to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle only for the suspect vehicle to accelerate and began a chase. The red truck evaded detention, committing several traffic violations through San Angelo before stopping in the Marquez Bakery parking lot off Avenue Q.

According to information from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device to help stop the pursuit.

After coming to a stop and with several law enforcement agencies not far behind, the suspect, Mejia, got out of the red truck and dropped facedown to the ground. He was taken into custody shortly after. The investigator approached the vehicle and observed a clear baggie of a green leafy substance, which was identified as marijuana, in the driver's seat. Also discovered inside the vehicle during the probable cause search was two clear Ziplock bags with a white crystal-like substance, that was suspected to be methamphetamine, behind the driver's seat.

The investigator conducted a field test for meth on the suspected substance which showed a positive reaction to the presence of methamphetamine. The drugs, along with the packaging weighed 211.6 grams.

Mejia was arrested and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. He was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on January 22, 2023, and was released the same day on $77,162 bond.

Kristina Alfara, a 30-year-old passenger in Mejia's vehicle, was also arrested and booked for two warrants. The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office also thanked the San Angelo Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Parks & Wildlife for aiding in the detention of Mejia.
